DUTCH started in the show ring at 6 months. He had consistent class placements until the age of 8 months, when he acheived his first 2 show points on the Washington show circuit. At 15 months of age he placed 2nd in the 2000 National Specialty Sweepstakes. Dutch's show career was then put on hold so that he could seriously pursue his field career. He achieved his Puppy Stake points on the demanding and very competitive Midwest trial circuit and continued campaigning until the summer prior to his 2nd birthday. Dutch was then sent to trainer Sherry Ray Ebert in North Dakota for "summer camp" and the beginning of his breaking for adult stake competition. Dutch came home to Nevada as a broke bird dog and went back to the show ring in June 2002 to attempt to finish his show Championship on the gruelling Idaho/Montana circuit. He returned from the circuit with both majors and a total of 14 points. Dutch finished his show Championship by going Best of Winners at the Grass Valley Kennel Club show Aug 31, 2002. In the Spring of 2007, he also earned his points for his Field Championship title, making him our second Dual Champion dog! Dutch has an OFA rating of GOOD (OFA Cert # BS-11049G33M-PI), is white and a rich mahagony in color and stands in at 19 1/4 inches. Dutch's field trial placement history to date: Fall of 2000 Fall of 2003 Spring of 2004 Fall of 2004 Spring of 2005 Spring of 2005 Unfortunately during the Spring of 2005, Dutch was running with a stress fracture in his front right leg that no one knew was there. When the Spring 2005 field trial circuit was finished, he underwent extensive daignostics to try and find out why he was limping. Although all xrays came up clean, Dutch was still in pain and was ordered by the vet to crate rest for 8 weeks. In the beginning of July, when nearing the end of his confinement, Dutch was feeling much improved. On the evening of July 7th, 2005, however, he jumped over the side of the truck and upon landing, broke his right front leg. The resulting fracture was so severe, it spiraled into his elbow, and it was feared that Dutch's hunting/competition days days had come to a sudden end. On July 9th, 2005, Dutch underwent a difficult orthopedic surgery. There were no guarantees. 13 pins and two bone plates later, he came home and the long, extended rehabilitation process began. 16 weeks later, in early December 2005 Dutch was cleared for some mid season chukar hunting on the promise to the vet that Brian and Dutch would take things easy. (Anybody who chukarhunts knows there is no such thing as "taking it easy.") In the Spring of 2006, Dutch came back to the competition circuit fullforce. Spring 2007 Pennsylvania Brittany Club - Second Place - OPEN GUN DOG (25S) NEW DUAL CHAMPION Dutch is retired now until October of 2007, when, IF he is up to it, he will run one last time in the American Brittany Club's National Open Gun Dog competition, before his retirement from the field trials becomes official. After that, he and HELEN will attempt to gain the final accolades of any polished gun dog's career....and that is to complete the requirements for the Master Hunting Title as well. |
